We definitely respect everyone's desire for privacy and anonymity - don't forget, we're smoking fetishists too. And we respect everyone's opinion. The only thing we'd ask - honestly, because the answer is important to us - is whether the track record of the people who would "have access" to your email address has any bearing on your decision to join a site.
That is, if Smoke Signals is the only one with access to your email - is that any different than if "hotsmokingchicksthatwehiredtomakeabuck.com" had access? (And we're asking everyone, not just Benchley.)
The reason it's important to us, is that for many, many years - a huge number of people in the sf community not only trusted us with their email addresses - they trusted us with their REAL addresses, so we could send them their monthly magazine. So we really are wondering if overall attitudes toward privacy have changed - attitudes toward us have changed - or attitudes in general have changed? Or if this is just a "minority" view?
Thanks for any contributions :)
