The state I live in,Nevada,has by far the highest black female smoking rate.We don't have an especially high African American population,but the blacks who do live here have a smoking rate that is over 40%,way above any other state.Nevada is not just #1 in smoking,we are also #1 in population growth, suicide,teen pregnancy,and high school drop outs.We rank #3 in murder and are now #3 in unemployment.We have a huge transient population.So,even if it's a smokers paradise here,we have more than our share of social problems and to be honest that probably contributes to the high levels of smoking,it's a stressful place.Jay,the state you live in,Illinois,is at the exact national average of black smoking,23.5%.Interestingly,Illinois also came in at the exact average on the internet dating smoking study I just did.I have heard it said before that in many ways Illinois is the most typical state,at the national average in many different catagories,it's certainly true for smoking. Of course,Newport is by far the most popular cigarette brand among blacks.It's been a very fast growing brand.Twenty years ago it wasn't in the top ten,now it's the overall #2 selling brand.
