The producers are the ones who either are making enough money to survive and produce more material or not making enough to survive. (And that's certainly not like the banks or insurance companies "needing" to make "enough" money.")
They know how much they used to sell - and they know what they sell now. They know what problems they used to have to fight - and they know what problems they have to fight now.
We don't think anyone doubts your sincerity - we're sure all the producers who you patronize appreciate your business - and we believe you when you say that you only download stuff that you probably wouldn't have bought otherwise. And we think that what you're saying is true --- for YOU.
HOWEVER.
That doesn't mean that most people are like you. In fact, the producers can tell you from what they see every day, that most people are NOT like you.
And unfortunately, downloading music doesn't really compare at all to downloading smoking fetish videos. We know that most people reading this, including you, are smart enough to figure out why they're not the same thing at all.
Just as one example.....a significant portion of the market for music is the "gift" category. Not enormous, but definitely significant. Ever buy a CD for a family member or friend as a gift? Yep, most people have.
OK.....now....ever buy a smoking fetish video for a family or friend as a gift? Didn't think so.
The point is - everyone always thinks that they see this issue the clearest. But the people who *really* see it the clearest - are the ones who gamble their money to produce. Wishful thinking doesn't change that, unfortunately. If it did, the producers would have wished the sharing sites away a long time ago.
