Your mom was a lot like other smoking mothers. She simply loved smoking and probably wasn't even aware of it having a effect one way or the other on you emotionally or psychologically at least on a concious level, unless of course you act or say something to either give away your dislike or enjoyment of her smoking. Did she enter your room as you got older and more aware of yourself with a cigarette and if so how did it affect you then?
