I remember being fascinated by the fact that she had all this Southern charm, everybody that met her instantly loved her, yet she had this "dark side" where she would beat her son.
I ran into her outside a school registartion in 1984. She had just moved back again after spending three years back in Louisiana. I remember how surprised and happy I was to see her. What I loved is during that brief encounter she was smoking a cigarette. I never saw her again, so my final memory of her will be of her smoking.
