"True, if they didn't profit, they wouldn't perform the service, and the public would be deprived of it. However, whenever they profit more by withholding or rationing the service, they will, and the public is deprived anyway. Maybe that arrangement doesn't serve the public interest best."
It's hard to pick a place to start, but those 3 sentences are hands down the dumbest remarks that have ever been posted to this forum. Apparently you're incapable of sorting through things. We'll try to help you. If you'll read on, the concept really isn't that difficult. First of all, unless you're talking about body parts, the concept of selling a product or service in a free market has nothing to do with Sociology, absolutely NOTHING. A person invents something, builds something, maufactures something, then next comes the way to market it, the means to get it to the people who want it, need it, and are willing to buy it, if any. We say "if any" because there is never any guarantee that someone will want a new product developed for sale. Comprendo? The price is normally going to be whatever the traffic will bear. If you're in an econ class, the professor will explain that the ideal price point is that per unit amount where profit is maximized. Few companies that mass produce pick a price point to "ration" their service. Forget that idea altogether. - - - - - - - - - - - - Here's perhaps the best way to explain the concept to you (and anyone else who cannot think things through and realize what will eventually ensue when people steal an artist's work). Please go over this as many times as it takes to have the words and their meaning sink in. Okay? Then at the end we have a question for you.
You - not a producer -- YOU invent something and produce it for sale to others. YOU spend YOUR time, YOUR energy, and YOUR money. Are you with me so far? It doesn't have to be a smoking vid. It could be ANYTHING. Okay? I buy one copy from you and then mass distribute it for others. They see, read, watch, use for free. You sell a handful and never even recover your initial costs, while hundreds or even thousands of people enjoy the fruits of your labor for free. Are you still with me? All because of me. I decided to rip you off. I put your stuff up for free and kicked you square in the balls. I am a low life who feels as if you are trying to "ration" what you made and/or are trying to "drive" people and there's really nothing you can do about it. You make more clips. I get them and put them on the net for free. And lots more people are willing to steal from you than pay a fair price because they too genuinely feel that you are trying to "deprive" them or "ration" things by charging a price for your work. Is anything starting to sink in yet? Just so there is ABSOLUTELY no confusion on your part, you're working for free. FREE. Got it? In fact, assuming you have had some expenses, you're probably taking money out of your pocket. Okay?
. Now. With that as a given, here's our question for you:
Do you keep working for free? Or do you act like you have somes brains and quit?
.
